I currently have about fifty of these “mashup seeds”. My mind has gotten very good at spotting potential matches, so I’ve started recording them in a file on my computer. For me, this usually happens just by listening to music, and I feel like that’s probably going to give better results than actively looking for songs that sound alike. The zeroth step in mashup making is just to find your source material. You can also check out all my mashups on YouTube. Mashup making is mostly a function of musical ability, not technical, and you can do it using entirely free software.
